The Woman King and the Real History of Dahomey

The African kingdom armed women not for self-defense but to capture and enslave neighboring populations.

Ahead of its debut in theaters today, The Woman King has been advertised as “the remarkable true story of a fierce, all-female unit known as the Agojie, who protected the west African kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s. Set in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the film will chart how this military force protected the interests of this powerful African state, fighting the French and neighbouring tribes who enslaved their people and violated their honour.”

Well, I guess that is one way to tell the story of the kingdom of Dahomey and its cadre of female warriors. Hollywood can take all.

Red Bull fined £6m by FIA over Formula One budget cap breach in 2021 season Red Bull confirmed to have overspent by £1.86m Team also see aerodynamic testing time reduced by 10% Red Bull have been fined $7m (£6.05m) after breaching Formula One’s budget cap, the FIA has announced. The FIA confirmed that the team, which carried Max Verstappen to a contentious championship victory over Lewis Hamilton last year, overspent by £1.86m. Red Bull have entered into a so called Accepted Breach Agreement with the FIA which will also see their aerodynamic testing time reduced by 10% next year. The deal, which ensures Red Bull lose any right to appeal, avoids the team risking a harsher punishment, which could have included the deduction of championship points, and Hamilton being instated as last year’s title winner.
