Democrats to call on Vance to testify to House committee over Epstein files
Democrats on the US House oversight committee plan to call JD Vance to testify over the Trump administration’s handling of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, following a major report by the New York Times.
Representative Robert Garcia is urging committee chair James Comer to summon Vance, citing reports that the Epstein files triggered an internal crisis within the Trump administration.
According to the report, Vance warned senior officials that the controversy posed a serious political problem, prompting multiple Situation Room meetings involving top White House and justice department officials. Some aides reportedly viewed the situation as a major public relations crisis.
The dispute intensified after the justice department concluded in 2025 that there was no evidence of an Epstein “client list,” followed by the release of millions of pages of documents under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
Lawmakers continue to investigate the administration’s response, with the oversight committee also seeking testimony from individuals linked to Epstein, including his former attorney Alan Dershowitz.
